Imphal, June 25 2025:
Former Chief Minister N Biren Singh has stated that the Central Government is working to reopen the National Highways and restore normalcy in Manipur, after which it will facilitate the formation of a popular government in the State.
His statement aligns with Union Home Minister Amit Shah's recent remark that installing a Government in Manipur would be challenging until there is some sort of consensus between the Meitei and Kuki communities.
Addressing an event, held to commemorate 50 years of the Emergency imposed in India during former Prime Minister Indira Gandhi's tenure, at Nityaipat Chuthek today, N Biren claimed that the seed of animosity among people, not just in Manipur but across the country, was sown during the Congress tenure.
It was the policy and programmes of the then Congress Government that threatened coexistence among people in Manipur's hill and valley districts, he charged.
Saying that the Centre has been closely monitoring the situation in Manipur, he added that BJP workers also have been working to address issues plaguing the State.
Claiming that peace has gradually returned to Manipur's valley districts, N Biren added that the Centre is now focusing on reopening the National Highways and making them accessible to all.
Expressing his belief that the Centre will install a popular Government in Manipur once the National Highways are opened, he appealed to all to support BJP in the 2027 Assembly election.
The Chief Minister also spoke about the different schemes implemented by the Central Government.
At the "Samvidhan Hatya Diwas-50 Years of Emergency" observance, Th Biswajit said the event was observed to save democracy and recall the "undemocratic" declaration of the Emergency by then Prime Minister Indira Gandhi in 1975 .
The late Prime Minister, "without consulting" her Council of Ministers and the Opposition, "unilaterally" declared the Emergency by "misleading" the President, Biswajit said, adding it was "unconstitutional" .
The programme was also attended by BJP Manipur president A Sharda Devi, former presidents Meinam Bhorot, former Union Minister Th Chaoba, ex-MP Ksh Bhavananda and party MLAs Th Biswajit, Dr S Ranjan, Kh Ibomcha and Karam Shyam among others.
