Imphal, May 21 2026:
The United Naga Council has sought the personal intervention of Union Home Minister Amit Shah for immediate release of six Naga hostages taken from Leilon Vaiphei village on May 13 .
"With due respect, the United Naga Council seeks your personal intervention for the immediate release of the 6 Naga hostages held by the KNF-P and Leilon Vaiphei village...," said the UNC in a letter to the Union Home Minister.
It is an established fact, corroborated by eyewitnesses present at the scene, that the remaining 6 Naga hostages including two Pastors are still in Kuki custody, said the UNC .
A total of 18 innocent Naga civilians, including men, women, and married couples were taken hostage in broad daylight at Leilon Vaiphei village on May 13 .
12 women and a child, excluding the six men, were subsequently released on May 15.
The UNC said "information culled from reliable sources indicates that the 6 Naga hostages may have been done away with in the custody of the KNF-P" .
The indecisiveness and inaction of the Government of Manipur has unduly delayed resolution of this matter.
This has raised serious concern among the general public as to why the State machinery and Central forces have remained ineffective, it said.
"Questions are being raised whether this failure is attributed to the interference by Mrs Nemcha Kipgen wife of the supremo of KNF-P, Mr Thangboi Kipgen who holds the Deputy Chief Minister post of the State," said the UNC in the letter.
The six Naga men must be handed over, safe-- if they are alive, and their bodies--if they are already dead without further delay, said the UNC.
"We request your able leadership to take urgent cognizance of this matter and ensure the immediate resolution of the hostage crisis," UNC said, also calling for actions to "de-escalate the grave and rapidly worsening situation in the State" .
