Impostors sent to jail

Imphal, March 20 2025:
The three impostors who pretended to be Jay Shah, s/o Union Home Minister Amit Shah and sought a huge donation through a phone call from Manipur Legislative Assembly Speaker Th Satyabrata and promised the post of Chief Minister in return have been sent to judicial custody.
The accused persons namely; Gaurav Nath (19) s/o Bahadur of Ghazipur East Delhi, Uvesh Ahmad (19) s/o Sageer Ahmed of Nidhauli Kalan, Uttar Pradesh and Priyanshu Pant (19) s/o Basant Ballabh Pant of Mayur Vihar Phase III, East Delhi were produced before the Court of Chief Judicial Magistrate, Imphal West today after completion of police custody period along with a prayer for judicial custody remand.
An APP submitted that at 07.30 pm on February 15, 2025, the complainant namely; Ngangom Bikram Singh, PRO to Thokchom Satyabrata Singh lodged a written report to the Officer-in-Charge, Imphal police station that many calls were received from an unknown number at about 2:07 am, 10:51 am, l1:11 am and several miss calls on February 10, 2025 on the mobile number of Thokchom Satyabrata Singh but he could not receive the calls nor call back in time.
At 3:10 pm on February 14, 2025, he (Satyabrata) called back to the unknown mobile number and the call was received.
During the conversation, an unknown caller who had identified himself as Jay Shah, son of Amit Shah told Satyabrata to donate Rs 4 crore as party fund and promised the post of CM in return.
Later, at 11:10 pm of February 14, 2025, a call was received from the same number but there was no response from the caller.
During police custody investigation, Gaurav Nath disclosed that he came across reports of Chief Minister N Biren's resignation on social media and news channels in the second week of February 2025 .
Soon after, he met with his friends Uvesh Ahmad and Priyanshu Pant at Mayur Vihar Phase-III, Delhi where they discussed the current political developments in Manipur.
It was further revealed that they came up with a plan to call the political leaders of Manipur and ask donations by promising them the post of Chief Minister and Ministers.
Gaurav Nath then collected some money for buying new mobile handsets.
He along with Priyanshu Pant made a setting in the True Caller ID as "Jay Shah" .
After that he checked the ECI affidavit website to collect phone numbers of the leaders and MLAs.
Having got the mobile numbers, he called MLAs of Uttarakhand such as Shiv Arora and demanded crores of money from them by offering ministerial berths in the Government of Uttarakhand.
Thereafter, he checked again on the ECI affidavit website and collected mobile numbers of MLAs Thokchom Satyabrata Singh and Kongkham Robindro Singh.
During the telephonic conversation, Gaurav Nath introduced himself to Th.Satyabrata as Jay Shah s/o Amit Shah, Union Home Minister of India and demanded a donation of Rs 4 crore as party fund He assured the Speaker that he would be made the Chief Minister of Manipur.
The Court, after hearing the submission of APP of the State and on perusal of the material on record, remanded the accused persons in judicial custody till April 3 .
