Imphal, July 16 2025:
The Zeliangrong Union (Assam, Manipur and Nagaland) has asserted that the motive behind the proposed construction of the controversial German Road or Tiger Road is to expand and promote Kuki-Zo militant activities and control strategic locations and key transport routes in Naga areas.
Expressing strong objection, a press release issued by Pantijai Newmei, general secretary, ZU (AMN) said that construction of the proposed road will not only marginalize the Naga tribes but also stoke communal tension with dangerous implications for future peace.
Further, objecting to the setting up of designated Suspension of Operations (SOO) camps of Kuki militant groups in close proximity to Naga-inhabited areas, it sought timely intervention from the Center and State Government.
ZU (AMN) explained that this will endanger peace and stability and also serve as a persistent source of fear and insecurity in the mind of the Naga community.
According to the ZU (AMN) statement, the proposed German/Tiger Road in the Zeliangrong Naga areas will connect Churachandpur and Kangpokpi district via Joujangtek, Natok Kabui, Ichum Kabui, Kotien, Waphong and Ireng.
The construction of this road will create more enmity between the Naga and Kuki community in the future, it cautioned.
