84th Nupi Lan Memorial Day observed widely

Commemorating the two historic movements waged by women of Manipur against mass exploitation and artificial famine triggered by the British, 84th Nupi Lan Memorial Day was observed widely in the State on Tuesday.
Local Councils of Communist Party of India (CPI) today observed Nupi Lan Memorial Day at different places in the State.
The observation held at the office of CPI Thoubal District Council in Kakching, was attended by Dr M Nara and Y Dhanajay as presidium members.
A Naba also took part in the function as a resource person.
CPI Local Councils of Wangkhei & Yaiskhul ACs also observed Nupi Lan Memorial Day by paying floral tributes at the statue of Ima Tongbram Sabi Devi located near Ningthem Pukhri.

L Sotinkumar, Borjen, Nagen, Ajay and League of Kelo Patriot secretary Athokpam Ibungo also took part in the function.
All Manipur Nupi Marup (AMNM) also observed Nupi Lan Memorial Day at Loitang Khunou Community Hall to commemorate the valiant Manipuri women who fought against the then mighty Britishers.
It was attended by National Federation of Indian Women (NFIW) vice president Maisnam Sakhi Devi, S Sorojini, L Sumatibala, Kh Sushila and Th Lalitabi as presidium members.
During the event, the gathering observed two minutes of silence to pay respect to the brave heroes who gave their lives for the cause of the motherland in the present conflict.
Women Forum, Oriental College also observed Nupi Lan Memorial Day at the Conference Hall of the college.
It was attended by Principal of the college, Dr Soraisam Ranjit Singh; L Ibeni Devi, HOD, Mathematics Department & chairperson Women Forum; Ch Somorendra, co-ordinator IQAC and M Lokendro, vice president Oriental College Teachers Association (OCTA) as presidium members.
During the event, teaching staff and students of the college paid floral tribute to the brave 'Imas' who fought against the British colonial rule.
A two-day Self-Defence Camp for girl students was also organised as a part of the observation.
Similarly, the State Level Nupi Lal Ningshing Lamjel Organising Committee also observed the 32nd State Level Nupi Lal Memorial Programme today at Singjamei Supermarket.
It was attended by MAHUD and RD&PR Minister Y Khemchand Singh, State Level Nupi Lal Ningshing Lamjel Organising Committee president Sarungbam Medini Devi, Kabui Dharma Sabha Manipur former secretary Gangmei Sana Kabui and Salima Memcha as presidium members.
During the event, Y Khemchand led the gathering in paying floral tributes to the Nupi Lan memorial statue located at Singjamei Supermarket.
It may be mentioned that the Nupi Lan Memorial Run was cancelled for this year due to the prevailing situation of Manipur.
Nupi Lan Memorial Day was also celebrated at the residence of Patsoi AC MLA Sapam Kunjakeswor (keba) in Tera Sapam Leirak.
At the event, the gathering led by Sapam Kunjakeswor offered floral tributes to the photographs of the Manipuri women who gave their live in the two Nupi Lan.
To commemorate Nupi Lan Memorial Day, Manipur Legal Aid Organisation (MALAO) today organised a 1-Day Legal Awareness Camp at the relief camps opened in Huanglam and Wabagai.
It was attended by MALAO advisor Irom Lalitkumar and Sr Advocate & MALAO chairman Ngangaom Tejkumar among others.
Moreover, in line with the observation of 84th Nupi Lan Memorial Day, Leima Chanu Nawa Tengbang Lup and Sangai Trust Foundation today jointly organised a Free Mega Health Camp at Singjamei Supermarket.
Dr Neha Thangjam, Assistant Professor Medicine, Shija Academy of Health Sciences; Th Binodini Devi, Sr Nursing Officer RIMS & secretary Train Nurses' Association India; Th Reeta Devi, Public Health Nurses' Supervisor and members of Leima Chanu Nawa Tengbang Lup participated in the camp which was conducted under the supervision of Professor Dr S Bhagyabati Devi.
Representatives of pharmaceutical companies such as Novamed, Lupin Diabetes & Eris Inspira Sun also took part in the camp.
Various services including HbA1c test, blood sugar detection, Uric acid test, blood pressure detection and free medicines were provided to the people during the camp.
Indian Red Cross Society (IRCS), Imphal East District Branch and Manipur University, Department of Vocational Studies & Skill Development today jointly celebrated Nupi Lan Memorial Day by donating blood at Blood Centre, JNIMS, Porompat.
It was attended by Manipur University, Vice Chancellor, Prof N Lokendra; IRCS Imphal East Branch president & DC Imphal East, Kh Diana Devi; IRCS Manipur State Branch chairman, Narendra Ningomba; Manipur University, School of Social Science, Dean and Department of Vocational Studies & Skill Development, Head, Professor Th Purnima Devi; and JNIMS Blood Centre Porompat, Senior Medical Officer, Dr Surjit Konsam as presidium members.
During the event, 40 volunteers including 10 women donated blood at the Blood Centre.
Later, members of IRCS Manipur State Branch and teachers of MU distributed the relief materials sponsored by UNICEF to the conflict survivors staying at Voluntary Guest House Porompat.
Besides, NUPI, a Delhi-based group also organised a Nupi Lan Memorial Function today at Polo Ground, Delhi University, GTB Nagar.
The main event of the function was a Marathon competition only for women- 5 Km 'Run for Unity of Manipur' .
The event was kick-started by Olympic medallist Mirabai Chanu.
Veteran singer Naba Volcano, author Rami Desai, folk singer Mangka, actor & social influencer Soma Laishram, senior journalist Sonia Soirensangbam and historian Dr Malem Ningthouja also took part in the event as key speakers.
Speaking on the occasion, Rami Desai said, "It's a pleasure to be here, it's the greatest movement not just for this country but in the world, one of the selfless movements, it wasn't centered around women's upliftment but for the upliftment welfare of the society" .
"It is hugely important especially since we have seen in the light of the past year when we saw all the violence, the collective voice of Manipuri women has always led and will continue to lead to bring the power to restore peace", she added.
Mahesh Thounaojam said that Nupi Lal played a vital role in the making of the today Manipur, it sowed the seeds of both economic and political reforms.
"While we commemorate Nupi Lan 1939 fought by the foregone generation, we must also recognize the fact that Nupi Lan lives not only as a memory but also in continuous organized actions.
The catastrophic situation since May 3, 2023, as designed and enforced by certain covert and overt forces, has dragged in Meetei women to rise to defend Manipur", he asserted.
Meanwhile, Nupilal Memorial Association Manipur president Waikhom (o) Boramani Leima has informed that the march carried out by members of the association to offer 'Meira' at Nupilal Memorial Complex was stopped at around 5.30 pm today by the Government in view of the prevailing law & order situation.
Speaking to the media, Boramani appreciated the State Government for renaming the road stretch from Governor's traffic point to Pureiromba Khongnangkhong as 'Nupi Lan Road' in honour of the brave women who fought against the oppressive regime of the British.
She expressed hope that the move of the Government will motivate and inspire the people of Manipur especially the women.
