Imphal, May 07 2026:
The office of the Member of Parliament, Professor Angomcha Bimol Akoijam, has categorically rejected allegations raised by Shanta Nahakpam, convenor of 14 CSOs.
The allegation that the documents, used by the MP in his recent speech on "Sensitisation on NRC", were from an organisation named JFD is patently false, mischievous, and entirely without basis, it said.
No such organisation has furnished any document, material, or input to the MP or his office, and the attempt to propagate such a claim publicly is both irresponsible and deliberately misleading, said the office of the MP .
The MP regularly meets a wide range of individuals associated with political organisations, members of the civil society, including academics, writers, artists, etc, in the course of his public engagements.
To the best of "our information", the organisation, JFD, is not one of those who met the MP nor have they submitted any document, material, or representation pertaining to the census or NRC issue, contrary to the claims made by Nahakpam, it said.
The MP, who is a known academic professional with more than 30 years of experience in research, has a dedicated team of researchers and subject experts from Manipur and outside the State who are continuously working on matters related to a range of issues of public importance, including Census, NRC and delimitation, and other policy issues, said his office.
"We further appeal to the people to carefully listen to the speech delivered by our Hon'ble MP on 2 May 2026 at MSFDS once again" .
The MP, in his address, had clearly laid out a comprehensive framework and emphasised the urgent necessity of a legally tenable, transparent and institutionally robust process for the detection and deportation of illegal immigrants in accordance with Constitutional principles and due process of law, it added.
