Imphal, May 03 2026:
People have begun to lose faith in the new State Government led by Chief Minister Y Khemchand, said Moirangthem Tombi, president of Shiv Sena, Manipur unit, today.
As in other places, Shiv Sena, Manipur, organised a programme at Babupara today to commemorate the May 3, 2023, incident when a targeted assault on the Meeteis by Kuki miscreants, including armed individuals, triggered the ongoing crisis in Manipur.
Paying tribute to the martyrs who laid down their lives for the cause of Manipur, Tombi stated that the crisis began after Chin-Kuki narcoterrorists deliberately attacked the Meeteis by burning their homes.
Dozens of people still remain missing, while several others have been killed by the Chin-Kuki narco-terrorists throughout the course of the crisis, he said.
Saying that both the Centre and the State Government have failed to restore normalcy in Manipur even after three years, Tombi stated that Kuki narco-terrorists are now attacking the Tangkhul Naga people as well, let alone giving up violence.
The crisis in Manipur persists because the Central Government does not seem to care about the State, he said and questioned whether such a crisis would be allowed to unfold in other States.
Further stating that illegal immigrants continue to enter Manipur and engage in poppy cultivation, he added that Mount Koubru and Thanjing which are revered by the Meeteis as sacred sites are now being desecrated.
He also mentioned that the Meeteis have been unable to undertake pilgrimages to Mount Koubru and Thanjing for the past three years.
While illegal immigrants have established numerous illegal villages in the hill districts, tens of thousands of indigenous Meeteis are still languishing in relief camps, he added.
Recalling the Chief Minister's statements that nothing happened to him while visiting Jiribam, Ukhrul etc, the Shiv Sena leader asked whether ordinary people can travel to the hill districts without an escort.
Questioning whether the Chief Minister can guarantee the safety of the highways, Tombi stated that security forces won't allow Meeteis to travel to the hill districts or move beyond the 'buffer zones' despite the claim by the Chief Minister.
Saying that the prolonged crisis has taken a heavy toll on the people, particularly the IDPs.
he urged the Government to resettle them within a specific timeframe.
He also stated that the Government must acknowledge the violent activities of Kuki militant groups under the SoO pact and take action against them.
