Imphal, March 23 2025:
Delimitation exercise during the ongoing conflict would not be feasible, and it must be conducted after proper identification of illegal immigrants, said Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) Manipur State coordinator, Thingnam Bishonath today.
Speaking to reporters at Manipur Press Club, Imphal, the AAP leader said the delimitation exercise before identification of immigrants illegally staying here would be detrimental to the security and integrity of the State and the interests of its genuine citizens.
"We welcome the Supreme Court's recent direction of granting three months to the Centre to conduct delimitation exercise in Manipur.
However, the exercise must be held after identification of illegal immigrants," Bishonath said.
He further asserted that the time now is not conducive for carrying out the proposed delimitation as the State is in the middle of a violent crisis.
Since the beginning of the conflict on May 3, 2023, the Prime Minister of the country has not visited Manipur once.
All political parties and civil society organisations must put pressure on the Centre to resolve the ongoing conflict, he said.
He also appreciated Supreme Court Judges for visiting Manipur and inspecting the conditions of the internally displaced persons staying in relief camps.
