MLAs travel to Ukhrul by road, join Shirui Fest

Altogether seven MLAs including Manipur Legislative Assembly Speaker Thokchom Satyabrata Singh travelled to Ukhrul by road today and attended the 5 th edition of the Shirui Lily Festival which celebrates the State's iconic flower and rich cultural heritage.
During the journey, Thokchom Radheshyam (Heirok), Lourembam Rameswor Meitei (Keirao), T Robindro (Thanga), K Robindro (Mayang Imphal), Kh Raghumani (Uripok), Sheikh Noorul Hassan (Kshetrigao) and Th Satyabrata (Yaiskul) were warmly greeted by Tangkhul people at various points along the Imphal-Ukhrul road as they attended the festival on its third day.
Along the way, the legislators were warmly welcomed at Yaingangpokpi, Mahadev, and Hundung by the Tangkhul people, who showcased their rich cultural heritage and presented them with simple yet meaningful gifts.
The exchange was marked with warm hugs, symbolizing the strong bond of brotherhood between the Meiteis and Tangkhuls.
Later, the Speaker attended the third day of the Shirui Lily Festival in Ukhrul as chief guest while the MLAs who accompanied him were the guests of honour.
The MLAs donated Rs 5 lakh to support the successful organization of the festival.
At the event, Satyabrata expressed his gratitude for being invited to attend the Shirui Lily Festival, saying it fosters unity among the people.
He said the Tangkhuls, residing in the hills, are the elder brothers of the Meiteis, who settle in the valley districts, emphasizing that the two communities can never be separated.
Satyabrata emphasized that the bond of brotherhood between the Meiteis and Tangkhuls is unbreakable.
Praying for peace to return to Manipur, he said that safeguarding the State requires collective efforts from all communities.
Meanwhile, the MLAs returned to Imphal today itself after attending the festival passing through several Kuki villages along the way.
Speaking to The Sangai Express, the MLAs maintained that normalcy is gradually returning to Manipur.
They mentioned that they travelled to Ukhrul, passing through Kuki villages without any incident, and attended the Shirui Lily Festival.
They said that many innocent Kuki children waved at them while passing through their villages.
The MLAs also said that they saw several Kuki people selling vegetables along the way and prayed for normalcy to return in Manipur.
