Senapati, April 19 2026:
The Indian Red Cross Society (IRCS), Senapati District Branch, Manipur has strongly condemned the reported harassment and obstruction faced by its volunteers while carrying out humanitarian duties in Bishnupur district on April 14, 2026 .
In a statement, the IRCS said the incident occurred at a time when its volunteers were engaged in the urgent and life-saving task of transporting injured civilians to medical facilities following a violent incident.
It termed any form of interference, intimidation, or mistreatment as "deeply unacceptable" and a direct violation of humanitarian principles.
The organisation reiterated that Red Cross operations are guided by universally recognized principles of humanity, neutrality, impartiality, and independence.
Volunteers, it noted, work solely to alleviate human suffering without discrimination.
Any action that undermines these efforts not only endangers lives but also erodes the very foundation of humanitarian service and public trust.
Expressing grave concern, the Senapati District Branch described the incident as a serious lapse in recognising and respecting humanitarian space.
It warned that such actions, if left unaddressed, could discourage volunteers who courageously serve in some of the most challenging and sensitive environments.
The IRCS has called for an immediate and impartial inquiry into the incident to establish facts and accountability.
It further urged authorities to issue clear directives to all security forces to recognize, respect, and facilitate humanitarian operations carried out by Red Cross volunteers.
