Imphal, January 15 2026:
A 7-day workshop on "Lai Haraoba Kanglongi Khanna Neinaba" organised by the Lainingthou Sanamahi Temple Board (LSTB), successfully concluded today at Ema Emoinu Sanggai, Lainingthou Sanamahi Shanglen in Haying Khongban Uphong Yumpham, Imphal.
The workshop, running from January 9 to 15, 2026, was conducted under the sponsorship of the Department of Art & Culture, Government of Manipur.
The closing function was graced by dignitaries, including Mrinashree Mairembam, Joint Director, Department of Art & Culture, Manipur; LSTB vice president Vidyapati Senjam, member secretary Maisnam Shivadutta Luwang, board member Keisham Ibomcha Mangang and Maibarel Maisnam Iboba Luwang.
Speaking on the occasion, Shivadutta said that the workshop on "Lai Haraoba Kanglon" was conducted to ensure the preservation of authentic traditional practices and prevent deviations from the indigenous norms.
"During the week-long workshop, the specific practices to be followed and avoided were discussed to maintain the sanctity of Lai Haoraba, a sacred festival deeply rooted in the religion and culture of the Meitei community", he added.
He also mentioned that the workshop aimed to protect Lai Haraoba from cultural dilution, ensuring its deep spiritual meaning and traditional protocols, including rules for celebration duration and adherence to traditional dress, remain intact.
Highlighting the significant role of the Ima Maibis (priestesses) and the Umang Lai Loishang in preserving indigenous faith and traditions in Manipur, he asserted that the workshop was organised as part of LSTB's broader initiative to strengthen these traditional institutions.
"Lai Haorabo festival is observed not only within Manipur but also in Meitei-inhabited areas outside the State, including parts of Bangladesh, Assam, and Tripura.
This widespread observance makes the accurate dissemination of its associated ritual knowledge critical for cultural preservation", asserted Shivadutta.
As part of the function, certificates were distributed to the participants of the 7-day workshop.
