Imphal, October 12 2025:
Alleging that October 15 is the day India forcibly annexed Kangleipak/Manipur and it is a black day for the people, the Alliance for Socialist Unity, Kangleipak (ASUK) has called a total shutdown all over Manipur from 6 am to 6 pm on October 15 .
A statement issued by ASUK Publicity Committee convenor S Mangal asserted that the events which took place in the State during the last two years and a half have affirmed that Manipur is a colony of India and her people are colonised people.
Like all colonised people, the people of Manipur can no longer see the truth or do what is right and they have lost the courage to do what is right, ASUK said.
In this critical situation, there is no leader to lead the masses in the right direction.
The political leaders feel no shame to sell off their dignity and self-respect in their pursuit for seats of power, it said.
Instead of standing against the act of legalizing the illegal, the political leaders have been seeking the blessing of those people who have been allegedly colonising the land.
At the same time, the political leaders have been acting like heroes against citizens who point out their alleged timid and spineless attitude, it said.
"We, revolutionaries are also unable to mobilize the masses", ASUK admitted.
Nothing is left with the people of Manipur/ Kangleipak except hope.
"We must work not to ever forget our origin, history, identity, how strong we were, how we lost our independence, what is our present status, how weak we are today, how corrupt is our character, what is our future and where is our destination", ASUK said.
For a sinking Nation like Kangleipak/Manipur, it is imperative to recall the key historical events at least once a year, it said.
In this matter, the people of Manipur can learn a lot from the Jews.
Jews always protected their National identity even when they were driven out from Israel and scattered all over Europe.
Over 2000 years ago, Jews were driven out from Jerusalem and their biggest temple was demolished twice.
They mourn this event every year on a day called 'Tisha B'Av' which falls on the 9th day of the Jewish calendar month 'Av' by fasting and crying the whole night.
Once on a day of 'Tisha B'Av', French emperor Napoleon was walking down the streets of Paris with his followers and he heard loud wailing and crying inside a synagogue.
When Napoleon asked what was wrong, one of his followers said that Jews were mourning the demolition of their synagogue at Jerusalem 2000 years back.
On hearing this, Napoleon said, "A Nation, still mourning after so long, will be eternal.
They will return to their land and rebuild their temple".
According to another writer, Napoleon said, "This is the secret of the existence of the Jewish people.
Two thousand years and they don't forget their tradition and heritage".
Yet, according to another writer, Napoleon remarked, :....a people who never forget their past are destined to forever have a future".
But the people of Kangleipak/Manipur are quite different from the Jews.
While the Jews mourn a historical event that took place 2000 years ago, the people of Kangleipak/Manipur are not remembering historical events of the recent past, ASUK remarked.
"Now people see the historical event of Seven Years' Devastation as a folk tale.
We are not studying the lives of Herachandra.
Gambhir Singh, Nar Singh" .
"We are not giving any drought to the significance of August 14, 1947.We are overlooking the Merger Agreement of 1949.We are giving little importance to the movements of Lamyanba Irabot and Naoriya Phullo, and the Nupi Lan too is becoming a minor event", ASUK said.
A Nation who does not know its history is destined to die.
One cannot understand today without knowing yesterday.
When one does not know yesterday and today, he/she will have no idea about tomorrow.
When a Nation does not have any idea about tomorrow, the Nation would not make any preparation for tomorrow.
A Nation which does not make any preparation for the future is a dead Nation, ASUK said.
"Our hope thrives on the soil of our history.
In order to keep our hope alive, we must never forget our history", it said.
It said that the people of Kangleipak/Manipur must always remember the history of the alleged forced annexation of Manipur by India.
"This will give us the strength to live.
In the history of how Manipur/Kangleipak lost its independence, October 15 is one day which we must always remember", ASUK asserted.
It said that the total shutdown on October 15 would be relaxed for emergency services, religious activities and medical services.
