Ningol Chakkouba celebrated with grandeur at AP

Ningol Chakkouba, the cherished festival that celebrates the sacred bond between brothers and sisters, was celebrated with great enthusiasm and grandeur at Pasighat, Arunachal Pradesh on November 8 .
Traditionally observed on the second day of the Manipuri lunar month of Hiyangei, the festival highlights the importance of women in Manipuri society and fosters familial ties, making it a cherished occasion for many in the region.
The event organised by the Manipuri Welfare Society of Arunachal Pradesh (MWSAP), Eastern Zone, witnessed participation from 'Ningols' hailing from various parts of the region, including Namsai, Tezu, Roing, and Pasighat-some traveling over 170 kilometers to join the celebration.
As per a release issued by MWSAP, the vibrant gathering strengthened the emotional and cultural bond between Meitei brothers and sisters, symbolizing the essence of love, respect, and unity that the Ningol Chakkouba tradition upholds.
A total of 35 Ningols and over 70 Meitei brothers took part in the celebration.
Gift hampers were presented to all participating Ningols, and a special surprise gift was awarded to one "Lucky Ningol of the Year 2025".At the event, Dr Y Disco Singh, general secretary, of MWSAP, expressed appreciation for the growing participation of Ningols from across the eastern region of Arunachal Pradesh.
He emphasized the importance of continuing this cultural legacy that unites the community.
Lokeshor, finance secretary of MWSAP, highlighted the significance of maintaining the rich cultural bond between brothers and sisters, urging for greater unity and collective responsibility among all members, not just the executive team.
Dr Tomba, chief patron of MWSAP, reflected on the society's remarkable growth over the years, acknowledging the collective effort and support of its members.
"There was a time when such a society did not exist, but today we proudly stand united under one umbrella", he remarked.
The event also included discussions on the society's annual calendar and upcoming programmes.
A key highlight of the day was the formation of the Women's Wing, with the selection of office bearers, encouraging active participation of women in the society's development and expansion.
The celebration concluded with a grand feast and the distribution of gift hampers to all Ningols, marking a memorable and heartfelt end to the day's festivities.
