Leprosy Unit calls for widespread participation in awareness campaign

Bishnupur, February 07 2025: The District Health Society, Leprosy Unit Bishnupur has appealed to the people of the district for widespread participation in the Sparsh Leprosy Awareness campaign which is being held across the district since January 30, 2025 .

The awareness campaign is held as part of the National Leprosy Eradication Programme under the initiative of the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, Government of India and will continue till February 13 .

Speaking at a press meet held at the office of District Health Society, Leprosy Unit Bishnupur, Th Linthang Chothe, Non Medical Assistant stated that Leprosy disease is not highly contagious, and can be cured permanently.

For the past many years, cases of leprosy have declined in the district, and only one person is receiving treatment in the district.

Urging the people of the district for widespread participation in the campaign which is to be held till February 13, Linthang Chothe encouraged the people for early detection of Leprosy and increased awareness on Leprosy so as to prevent and eradicate Leprosy from the country.
