Imphal, September 03 2025:
Unable to venture out from their locality due to the crisis besetting Manipur since May 3, 2023, the livelihood of Kwatha Khunjao people has been severely impacted, with their lives becoming more like living in confinement.
Inhabited by the Meetei community, Kwatha is a village in Tengnoupal district closely associated with Meetei culture and tradition.
Kwatha, once a peaceful village with its own chief, is one of the villages severely impacted by the crisis involving Meeteis and Kukis.
As the villagers have been unable to venture out freely for trade and other purposes for over 28 months, the people of Kwatha are living in an unprecedented predicament.

Speaking to The Sangai Express about their plight, a group of villagers said that although no violence have taken place at Kwatha, it is one of the severely impacted villages as they are unable to venture out freely.
The villagers said that they have been unable to tend to their fields for over two years for security reasons, despite agriculture being their main source of income, forcing them to live more like in confinement.
On healthcare, they said that no doctor is stationed at the only PHC at Kwatha other than two nurses and one lab assistant.
Asking why the Government isn't sending any doctor to the PHC, they said their only option for healthcare emergencies is to rely on Assam Rifles doctors.
They expressed desire for the Government to send a doctor to the Kwatha PHC.
The villagers also appealed to the Government to provide some form of assistance to Kwatha villagers, similar to the help given to internally displaced people (IDPs), as their lives have also been shattered by the crisis.
Further stating that they are unable to care for their families, let alone send their children to school, they further appealed to the Government to provide some form of assistance until the crisis is resolved.
They also appealed to the Government to exempt them from paying bills and taxes until the situation improves.
The Kwatha villagers, meanwhile, expressed then-gratitude to the Tengnoupal DC and SDO for providing rice and reaching out to them from time to time.
