Combined team recover huge cache of ammos

A combined team of Imphal East district police commandos and troops of 28 Assam Rifles has recovered a huge quantity of arms and ammunition when search operation was conducted at different locations of Imphal East district.
speaking to newspersons this afternoon, the district's Additional Superintendent of Police M Rajen said that based on intelligence report about movement of UG activists search operations were conducted at Uran Chiru, Awangching and Sandangsenba Maring villages under Irilbung police station from around 5.20 am today.
As the joint operation spread to the hilly terrains of Nongmaiching (Baruni hills), at around 6.30 am, the search team stumbled on the weapons wrapped in polythene sheet under a pine tree near Awangching village, said the ASP.

The recoveries included one G-3 rifle with magazine, a Chinese hand-grenade, one HE-56 hand-grenade without detonator, 52 live rounds of AK series rifle, 28 M-16 live rounds, 32 UMM ammunition, one AK series magazine, three 9mm pistol magazines, one high-frequency I-Com wireless set, nine feet long Chinese-made cordex wire and three electronic detonators, Rajen detailed.
Conceding that it could not be ascertained to which armed group the recovered items belong, he maintained that for further investigation the recoveries would be handed over to irilbung police.
