Kangpokpi, November 29 2025:
An inspection team from Manipur University visited Sorshia Christian College, Mapao Zingtun (Khullen)in Kangpokpi district to assess the young institution for its up-gradation from first-year to second-year BA and renewal of temporary affiliation for the 2025-26 academic session.
The visit, attended by students and villagers at the hillside campus, was seen as a recognition of the college's quiet but determined educational journey.
Established in 2024 and affiliated to Manipur University, Sorshia Christian College currently offers BA courses in English, Sociology, Political Science, History and Education.
For many first-generation learners in the region, the college represents a rare opportunity to pursue higher education without undertaking long and uncertain journeys away from home.
The inspection team was led by Prof H Sukhdev Sharma, Director of the College Development Council, accompanied by senior faculty members Prof Laishram Rajen, from the Dept of Political Science, Prof Irom Gambhir from the Dept of English and Dr Jacob Luiram, Associate Prof in the Dept of History, along with CDC officials Chaoba Takenchangbam, Lamabam Jayananta Khuman and P Bandhan.
Welcomed by the college community, the team first attended a multimedia presentation that traced the journey of the College from a simple idea to a functioning campus, outlining its vision, student profile, classroom and library facilities, and plans for academic growth.
The team then interacted with teachers, inspected classrooms and reviewed available resources.
The college, located beside the well-known Mapao Zingtun, Sorshia Home and Boarding School, has earned national attention as a place of harmony where Kuki and Meitei children study and play together, even during periods of unrest.
The college leadership described Sorshia Christian College as a natural extension of this ethos, aspiring to nurture a "peace campus" rooted in trust, discipline and shared learning.
Speaking on behalf of die management, Director Dr Atom Sunil Singh expressed gratitude to Manipur University and the College Development Council for visiting the institution.
He said the college community is hopeful for a positive outcome from the inspection.
