Imphal, September 14 2025:
The Prime Minister's visit to Manipur yesterday after more than 2 years of conflict has courted sharp criticisms from political parties for "failure to address the ongoing crisis".
Prime Minister Narendra Modi's visit was a pit-stop.
He failed to address the ongoing crisis.
Instead, he unveiled multiple projects which were almost completed during the previous Congress Government, CPI (M) has said in a statement.
He didn't mention the crisis and failed to present a road-map to bring peace.
This showed that Modi came only for inauguration and foundation stone laying ceremonies while remaining unserious about the ongoing crisis, it said.
The people and the CPI(M) Manipur State Committee had high hopes that the PM would be announcing a road-map to bring peace and normalcy in the State after consulting with the leadership of the political parties in Manipur, representatives of CSOs and the displaced people who are still living in the makeshift relief camps, it said.
Contrary to "our expectations" the Central and State government authorities neither arranged nor invited for a meeting with the visiting PM to discuss the ongoing crisis.
During his stay in Manipur, he didn't even visit the relief camps where the Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) are living in pathetic conditions, said the CPI(M).
There must be a solution to the ongoing crisis.
If the Government is interested, it can arrange dialogues and discussions with the political parties, CSOs and stakeholders to bring peace and normalcy in the State, said the party.
The Manipur People's Party (MPP) too has criticised the PM's visit and said it seemed to have created division among communities in the State.
Inaugurating and launching projects worth crores "separately" in Churachandpur and Imphal yesterday created the manifestation of a possible creation of a separate administration for Kukis, the MPP asserted in its statement.
The Manipur conflict has taken the lives of more than 250 people, with many killed by Kuki militants.
It has displaced more than 60,000 persons.
But, the Prime Minister during his address chose not to mention a word of the conflict.
This was very unfortunate for the people of Manipur who have suffered since May 3, 2023, said the MPP.
The PM's visit was namesake and without any objectives.
It showed his sheer ignorance for the people who have suffered, it added.
