Ukhrul, April 28 2026:
Four Naga Village Volunteers (NVG) were injured in a fresh attack by Kuki militants at the forested areas of Ringui village, Ukhrul district at around 10:30 this morning.
According to reports, the incident of fresh gun firing occurred at 10:30 onward and it lasted for an hour, until the Kuki militants fled from the forest of Ringui village.
The four injured persons have been identified as Makanmi (35, sustained bullet injury on right chest), M Kashung (42, hit on calf), T Thingshung (sustained bullet injury on glutes/buttock and H Ngalung (hit at the ankle).
Three serious persons M Ahum, T Thingshung and M Kashung were immediately rushed to Ukhrul district hospital for further treatment.
Meanwhile the Ringui Village Protection Committee (RVPC) has strongly condemned the unprovoked attack carried out by the Kuki terrorists operating under the Suspension of Operation (SoO) pact today at around 10.30 am.
According to their press statement, the Kuki militants reportedly armed with sophisticated weapons attacked the Naga Village Guards (NVG) who were keeping watch over the Ringui Horei forest area within the territorial jurisdiction of Ringui Naga village, Ukhrul district, leaving two village guards seriously injured.
The gun fight which began at around 10.30 am caused widespread panic, fear and distress among the innocent villagers.
This was not the first time Kuki terrorists launch attacks in the same location.
The repeated acts of aggression revealed a continuing pattern of hostility and provocation.
As a result, innocent civilians including women, children and elderly persons, are being compelled to live in constant fear and uncertainty.
The people remain vulnerable to stray bullets, destruction of homes and properties, forced displacement and the ever-present risks to human lives.
The continued aggressions by Kuki terrorists have the potential to escalate tensions between the Kuki and Naga communities into a much wider conflict, thereby threatening peace, communal harmony, and stability across Manipur, RVPC said.
"In view of the seriousness of the situation, the Ringui Village Protection Committee urgently calls upon the competent authority to ensure that peace and harmony is maintained in Ringui Village and its vicinity.
The Ringui village stands united in defence of its land, its people, and its right to live in peace and dignity" stated the statement issued by the RVPC.
According to another press statement of NVG, one of its teams who were on routine patrol inspected the forested area at Horei hill within Ringui village jurisdiction, following reports of suspected illegal activities but they came under heavy fire from Kuki narco-terrorists.
The NVG said that four of its members were injured.
The statement further mentioned that the Kukis have been cultivating poppy for many years in the forested areas under Ringui and Sirarakhong village adjoining Mullam under Ukhrul district, and the area has been serving as a key transit point for narco-terrorism operation in the State of Manipur.
"The NVG takes a strong exception to the violent act committed upon the real landowners and narco-terror activities being carried out in the Naga ancestral land by the illegal immigrant Kukis", it said.
The State Government has been waging a war on drug campaign in the hills of Manipur, but the illegal activities still continue in the forested areas adjoining Mullam.
The State and Central Governments must seriously re-strategise and adopt concrete measures to contain the poppy cultivation and put an immediate end to narco-terrorism at all cost, it added.
