Imphal, March 25 2025: The BJP high command has directed all the MLAs and BJP office bearers who were appointed as chairpersons of different corporations and boards during the N Biren led Government.

Following the directive, some MLAs have already tendered resignation from different posts given to them as political appointments.

All the MLAs and BJP office bearers who are holding the posts of Chairpersons of different corporations and boards were asked in person by the party's high command on March 22, 2025 to step down from their respective posts, sources said.

Step down: BJP high command to political appointees

As there is no longer a popular Government in the State following the resignation of Chief Minister N Biren, all the MLAs and BJP office bearers who were appointed as chairpersons of different boards and corporations should step down on their own, said the sources.

However, the MLAs and the BJP office bearers did not resign from the posts of chairperson for a long time after N Biren resigned from the post of Chief Minister on February 9, 2025 and President's Rule followed on February 13 .

In the meantime, Opposition Congress party has been maintaining that as per convention all the MLAs and other individuals who were given political appointments by a popular Government must step down once the popular Government ceases to exist.

The Congress party even submitted a representation to the Governor asserting that the political appointees must resign immediately.

Even though none of the political appointees bothered to step down for around 40 days after the resignation of Chief Minister N Biren and imposition of PR, some MLAs have tendered their resignation to the Governor and the Chief Secretary from their respective political appointments following the BJP high command's instruction.

Notably, around 17 MLAs and BJP office bearers were appointed as chairpersons of different corporations and boards during the N Biren Government.

BJP MLAs Sorokhaibam Rajen (Lamsang AC) was appointed as Deputy Chairman of Manipur State Planning Authority, Lourembam Rameshwor (Keirao AC) as Chairman of Planning & Development Authority, Dinganglung Gangmei (Nungba AC) as Hill Areas Committee Chairman, Paonam Brojen (Wangjing-Tentha AC) as Chairperson of Manipur Development Society, Sapam Kunjakeswor (Patsoi AC) as Chairperson of Manipur Electronics Development Corporation, Thounaojam Shyamkumar (Andro AC) as Chairperson of Tourism Corporation of Manipur Limited, Tongbram Robindro (Thanga AC) as Chairperson of MSPDCL, Kongkham Robindro (Mayang Imphal AC) as Chairperson of Manipur Industrial Development Corporation, Khongban-tabam Ibomcha (Lamlai AC) as Chairperson of Manipur Handloom and Handicraft Development Corporation, Sagolsem Kebi (Naoriya Pakhanglakpa AC) as Chairperson of Manipur State Women Development Corporation Limited, JD-U MLA Abdul Nasir (Lilong AC) as Chairperson of Waqf Board, BJP Manipur Pradesh General Secretary K Saratkumar as Chairperson of Manipur Building and Other Construction Workers Welfare Board, BJP Manipur Pradesh spokesperson Moirangthem Asnikumar as LDA Chairperson, BJP Manipur Pradesh vice-president Nongthombam Nimbus as Chairperson of Khadi & Village Industries Board and BJP Manipur Pradesh Secretary Pukhrambam Somor- jit as Chairperson of Mani-pur Food Industries Corpo- ration Limited.
