28th death anniversary of NK Sanajaoba observed
GoI wants to achieve something out of the conflict: Meghen

Imphal, November 11 2023: There is no solution yet to the present conflict because the Govern-ment of India has not achieved what it wants to achieve, said former rebel leader RK Meghen today.

He said this while attending the 28th death anniversary of Lamyanba NK Sanajaoba observed at Singjamei Wangma Torban Kshetri Leikai LP School ground, Imphal.

Meghen led the gathering in paying floral tributes at the memorial site of NK Sanajaoba.

To show respect to NK Sanajaoba and remember him, the gathering observed a 2-minute silence.

NK Sanajaoba was born on December 30, 1936 at Singjamei Wangma Kshetri Leikai and he died on November 11, 1995 .

Speaking on the occasion, RK Meghen talked about the present crisis and said that the conflict between the communities has not been resolved even after six months.

"The present conflict has dragged on for more than six months without a solution till today.

There has not emerged a solution and there won't be one anytime soon.

The Government of India wants to achieve something out of this conflict.

Until it achieves its objectives, there will come no solution," said Meghen.

He stressed that the Government of India has not achieved its objectives, and hence the conflict and the clash between the Meiteis and the Kukis is expected to continue intermittently.

He said there is a suspicion that amid the conflict, there is a ploy to break the "strength" of the Meitei community.

People should know this and discuss it.

The State Government, he said, seems to be tightly held by the Centre under its control.

The elected Government has lost its relevance even though there is no clear picture of the State being under President's Rule.

Intellectuals should discuss these issues and it is time for people to take a collective decision, he said.

"Discord among the Meiteis has for years been a reason for our subjugation.

The present conflict will wash away this nature of the Meiteis.

The war now is for survival.

It will become a matter of survival for the whole community.

Personal disagreement will have to be washed away.

Saving Manipur and the Meitei community will depend on it," Meghen said.

He said the present situation demands from all sections of the society to come together.

The Government, revolutionary groups, civil society organisations, Meira Lups and all organisations should come together.

To save the Meitei community, all organisations should shed their differences, he said.

Meghen added unless they shed their differences, they will not be called true leaders.

Leaders, he said, should show their courage and will.

The former rebel leader also said that the United Nations should also view the matter of human rights violations in Manipur seriously.

Meghen said Lamyanba NK Sanajaoba was a pioneer in the field of investigative journalism in Manipur and his contributions will be remembered by the people for generations.

NK Sanajaoba was a brave and courageous man who didn't fear death in digging out truth.

He was a man who wrote in the Lamyanba paper and pointed out the failures and flaws of the Government and society.

He educated the youths.

NK Sanajaoba was arrested and as he was innocent, he was released, said Meghen.

Retired IAS officer RK Nimai, senior journalist Yambem Laba and Macha Leima and All Manipur Kanba Ima Lup (AMKIL) advisor Kh Anandi attended the event as the chief guest, president and guest of honour respectively.
