Imphal, September 10 2025:
With security beefed-up and preparations going on in full swing, strife-torn Manipur is gearing up for the Prime Minister's visit on September 13 - exactly 2 years, 4 months and 10 days after the conflict broke out in the State.
Wooden barricades along the Keishampat to Airport road have started coming up, as the PM will reportedly go by road to the Airport to take a flight.
The Manipur conflict that erupted on May 3, 2023 will complete 865 days on September 13, 2025 .
While the PM's proposed visit is highly anticipated, it is being criticised for "being very late" and "superficial" in nature.
The scheduled duration of the Prime Minister's stay in the State has also raised eyebrows with many calling out the PM and the Government of India for "not giving enough time" and "ignoring" the State.

Members of the public, Congress leaders and many civil bodies have described the PM's proposed visit to Manipur as a "detour" while visiting other States.
While this will be his first visit during the conflict, the Prime Minister is expected to spend only about 3 hours in Manipur, before heading to Assam for a 2-day visit.
Several reports suggest that the Prime Minister may first visit Mizoram and then head to Manipur on September 13 before departing for Assam in the afternoon of the same day.
In Mizoram, Prime Minister Narendra Modi is scheduled to inaugurate the 51.38 Km long Bairabi-Sairang new railway line, and a few development projects.
While in Mizoram, the Prime Minister is also scheduled to address a public meeting at the Assam Rifles Ground in Aizawl.
In Manipur, sources said the Prime Minister will address public meetings at Churachandpur and Kangla in Imphal.
During the visit to Churachandpur, Kuki civil bodies are expected to submit memoranda to the Prime Minister.
After spending about 3 hours in Manipur, the Prime Minister is then expected to fly to Assam, where he will attend the birth centenary celebrations of Bharat Ratna Bhupen Hazarika and spend the night there.
Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa has said that the Prime Minister will visit Assam on September 13 and 14 to inaugurate and lay foundation stones of various development projects worth Rs 18,000 crore.
On September 13, the Prime Minister will attend the birth centenary celebrations of Bhupen Hazarika at the Veterinary College Field in Khanapara.
The event is scheduled to start at 5.15 pm .
Reports said the Prime Minister will spend the night at the No 1 State Guest House in Guwahati.
On September 14, the Prime Minister will travel to Mangaldoi and lay the foundation stone for various projects including medical and nursing colleges worth Rs 567 crore.
The PM is also scheduled to launch the construction of a Rs 1,200 crore bridge over the Brahmaputra River and Rs 4,500 crore Guwahati Ring Road project.
The PM will lay foundation stones for some other projects and depart for Kolkata from Jorhat Airport.
"Manipur has been burning since May 3, 2023 with more than 60,000 people displaced.
The State needs special attention.
Merely visiting the State for a few hours while on the way to other States, perceived as more important ones, will not help resolve the crises," said a person in his mid-30s.While sharing this same sentiment, Congress MLA Th Lokeshwar had a few days ago said that the Prime Minister's proposed visit seemed to be lacking proper planning and sincerity.
The MLA had said that the Prime Minister should invite all the MLAs for a meeting and sincerely discuss the issues facing Manipur.
Significantly, all the 59 MLAs at present have been reportedly invited to the scheduled meetings at Kangla and Churachandpur on September 13.However, it is not known whether the Prime Minister will meet the MLAs separately.
While many perceive the proposed visit as merely an answer the Prime Minister may use to shut Opposition's constant pressure on him to visit Manipur, civil bodies and the State Congress have urged the PM to make the visit "more than a gesture" and "address the real problems" .
"The crisis would not have persisted this long had it happened in other States like Gujarat and Uttar Pradesh.
If the Centre genuinely wants to resolve the crisis, it can do so very quickly," former Chief Minister Okram Ibobi had said recently.
He had also stated that the Congress was deliberating whether to submit a memorandum to the Prime Minister during his visit.
Even though there is no report about any meetings being planned between the civil bodies and Modi at Imphal, many organisations are expected to submit memoranda to the PM.
Many civil bodies had recently urged the Prime Minister to address the plight of the displaced people staying in relief camps and announce special rehabilitation and economic packages.
