No force can disintegrate Manipur: N Biren

Imphal, January 29 2024:
In a strongly worded assertion, Chief Minister N Biren Singh has stated that the Govern-ment will never allow the elements who are waging a war against the State prevail.
It is time for the people to unite and identify who the real enemies are, he said while attending the launching ceremony of the Imphal Ring Road project held at Takyel Khongbal Maning Leikai, today.
The Chief Minister stated that the State is passing through a difficult phase but it is not the first time.
Over 1000 were killed in the violent conflict which took place in the early 1990s (1992-93) in Manipur, he added.

Saying that the Manipur has a history spanning over 2,000 years and the legacy of erstwhile kingdom was protected by 'our ancestors' with just swords and spears, the Chief Minister maintained that the ongoing battle in Manipur is also between the people of Manipur and those who want to disintegrate the State.
There is no force which can disintegrate Manipur, he asserted.
Assuring that the Government will not succumb to the pressure nor allow the State to break apart under any circumstances, the Chief Minister appealed to the people not to worry too much but have faith in the Government.
N Biren said that they at the Government have been working day and night since the past eight months to keep the State intact.
Stating that over 3500 personnel of IRB, Manipur Rifles and State police have been deployed at vulnerable and foothill areas, he urged the people to understand who the foes are and join the movement to safeguard Manipur.
The Chief Minister further appealed to the people not to create troubles in the valley districts and entrust the responsibility to protect the State's unity and integrity to the Government.
The security forces stationed at foothill areas have to be redeployed in the valley districts if there is tension, he reasoned.
He also appealed to all concerned not to politicise the current issue but refrain from instigating the people to hold rallies or protests.
The incumbent Government is not the typical one.
It believes in the proverbial "Khul Houraklagadi Thangjou Pairaga Matung Inlu, Achum Aran Konna Thiyu" which roughly translates as "Follow the villagers with a weapon in hand if there is an uprising, seek the truth later" .
Cases of fake encounters and the fear of staying away from homes at late hours disappeared after the formation of the BJP Government in 2017, he contended while stating that the first six years of BJP Government in Manipur was peaceful and there was rapid development in the period.
He went on to claim that the mode of governance shifted from "Hatpa Nattana Upai Leite (There is no other options than to kill)" to "Eikhoi Hingadabani (We need to survive)" after the BJP took the helm.
At one time people ran away from commandos, now the same commandos are saving the people, the Chief Minister said and added that the public-police relations have improved significantly.
N Biren maintained that the Government, however, won't accept the policies/programmes which have an ulterior motive to suppress the indigenous people by letting a large number of foreigners settle in the State illegally, encroachment on reserved and protected forest areas to engage in widespread poppy cultivations or any other activities which are detrimental to the State's interest.
He said that the people of Manipur need to stand together during this difficult time to protect the State.
