Governor lauds Assam Rifles' roles

Governor Anusuiya Uikey graced an Assam Rifles Investiture Ceremony held today at the Durbar Hall of Raj Bhavan in Imphal.
Speaking at the ceremony, Governor Anusuiya said Assam Rifles has been showcasing its glorious history for 187 years, its achievements, integrity and sacrifices made by its soldiers.
She said that Assam Rifles was at the forefront in both world wars and also in counter insurgency operations, maintaining law and order, providing assistance in local administrative work, disaster management and socio-economic development of remote areas, the PRO Raj Bhavan conveyed in a statement.

"They (Assam Rifles) are continuously active in the difficult terrain of the North-East and in counter insurgency operations.
They have won the trust and confidence of the people of North East through their public welfare works," asserted Governor Anusuiya Uikey.
With regard to the current situation in Manipur, the Governor acknowledged and appreciated the roles played by the Assam Rifles in establishing peace and harmony through their dedication.
The Governor said the Assam Rifles is key in reducing the tension between communities.
Through their strategic insertions, the Assam Rifles has not only ensured the security of the citizens but also positively encouraged an environment conducive to dialogue and reconciliation, she said.
The dedication and hard work of the Assam Rifles in these difficult times epitomizes the spirit of service and unity essential for the well being of the State, she added.
The Governor lauded the State's Chief Secretary Dr Vineet Joshi and team and also Security Advisor Kuldiep Singh for their "efforts in restoring peace and normalcy in Manipur" .
During the ceremony, Governor Anusuiya handed over Governor's Gold and Silver Medals to Assam Rifles personnel and Governor's Unit Citations to Army and AR units.
She congratulated all the medal winners and Governor's Citation winners for their excellent work and wished them a glorious future.
Security Advisor to Government of Manipur, Kuldiep Singh, Inspector General, Assam Rifles (South), Major General Rajan Sharawat, Chief Secretary Dr Vineet Joshi, Manipur State Chief Information Commissioner Koijam Radhashyam Singh, Additional CS MH Khan and Commissioner, Home T Ranjit attended the ceremony.
