Imphal, January 29 2024:
In a memorandum submitted to Prime Minister of India Narendra Modi, 10 MLAs of Kuki-Zomi-Hmar communities have expressed grave concern over the deteriorating law and order situation in the state while demanding separate administration for Kukis.
In the memorandum, the MLAs cited the recent Kangla meeting on January 24, where Meetei MLAs and Ministers took an oath to safeguard the state and its territory, which they termed as an oath of allegiance to Arambai Tenggol taken in violation of their constitutional duties.
They further claimed that the chaotic situation in the state has escalated, leading to the public humiliation and physical assault on three MLAs.
The memorandum alleged that the Chief Minister has maintained silence on the matter, raising concerns about the safety of minority communities.
The memorandum further alleged that since May 3, Aram-bai Tenggol has been involved in conflict with the Kuki-Zo people, aggravating divisions in the state.
Lawlessness has become the norm in Imphal, the Kuki MLAs claimed while adding that Arambai Tenggol's activities testify breakdown of constitutional machinery in the valley area.
Expressing disappointment over the lack of attention and intervention from the Central government, the memorandum recalled of an ea-lier representation sent to the Home Minister on January 24 opposing a resolution adopted by some MLAs on January 21 regarding the abrogation of Suspension of Operation (SoO), and demanding immediate withdrawal of Meetei police commando personnel from Moreh, and re-imposition of AFSPA in the valley area.
Stating that the matters remain unattended despite the representation, the 10 Kuki-Zomi-Hmar MLAs reiterated their demand for a separate administration from Manipur under specific provisions of the Constitution.
