State Level Chess : Y Dhanabir climbs atop after Round 5

Y Dhanabir climbed to the top of the 1st Wahengbam Lalmani Singh Memorial State Level Open Chess Tournament 2024 on 5 points registering his fifth straight win today.
The tournament organised under the aegis of Manipur Chess Association in the Swiss League System since January 27 is underway at Sagolband Tera Amudon Akham Leikai community hall.
Yambem Dhanabir completed his fifth win in the tournament participated by 65 players by beating Chitaranjan Taorem today in a clash for pole position before Longjam Kenedy beat Thongam Nabachandra (4 pts) to amass 4.5 points in five rounds and secure second place.
The day also saw Naorem Tokyo beat S Premjit, RK Bhogen beat Khoirom Bikramjit, Oinam Ningthem beat Sorokhaibam Herojit, Konsam Jibam beat Amom Shyamkishor and Naoremcha Yoihenba beat RK Ningthem to secure four points after Round 5 .
The tournament which carries Rs 15,000 cash prize for the winner in the open category will run till February 2.Besides prizes for top 10 places in the open category, the tournament offers prizes for top two position holders in veteran, Under-15 and Under-11 categories.
