Assam Rifles has trust of people: Governor

Governor Anusuiya Uikey attended the Assam Rifles Investiture Ceremony held at the durbar hall of Raj Bhavan, here on Monday.
Speaking at the ceremony, Governor Anusuiya noted that Assam Rifles has been showcasing its glorious history for 187 years, its achievements, integrity and sacrifices made by its soldiers.
Assam Rifles had been at the forefront in both world wars, as well as counter insurgency operations, maintaining law and order, providing assistance in local administrative work, disaster management and socio-economic development of remote areas.
They are continuously active in the difficult terrain of the North-East and in counter insurgency operations.
They have won the trust and confidence of the people of North East through its public welfare work in all its areas, she said.
With regard to the current unrest situation in the state, the Governor acknowledged and appreciated the essential role played by the Assam Rifles in establishing peace and harmony through their dedication and added that it is key in reducing the tensions engulfed between communities.
Anusuiya Uikey further mentioned that through their strategic insertions, Assam Rifles has not only ensured the security of the citizens but also positively encouraged an environment conducive to dialogue and reconciliation.
The dedication and hard work of the Assam Rifles in these difficult times epitomises the spirit of service and unity essential for the well-being of the state, she added.
She also lauded chief secretary Dr Vineet Joshi, his team and security advisor Kuldiep Singh for their efforts towards restoring peace and normalcy in Manipur.
During the ceremony, Anusuiya Uikey handed over Governor's Gold and Silver Medals to Assam Rifles personnel and Governor's Unit Citations to Army and AR units.
She congratulated all the medal and citation winners for the excellent work in every field and wished them a glorious future.
Security advisor to government of Manipur Kuldiep Singh, Inspector General, Assam Rifles (South), Major General Rajan Sharawat, chief secretary Dr Vineet Joshi, Manipur State Chief Information Commissioner Koijam Radhashyam, additional CS MH Khan, and commissioner (home) T Ranjit also attended the ceremony.
