The All Naga Students' Association, Manipur (ANSAM) has announced to intensify its agitation today by including the banning of even inter-state passenger buses from plying along the national highways leading to Manipur from the midnight of April 17 .
The ongoing 6-day economic blockade concludes in the midnight of April 17 .
However, in a meeting today with the United Naga Council (UNC) at Senapati, the ANSAM resolved to extend its ongoing agitation for a week.
This is to say that the ANSAM agitation has extended till April 24 .
"All Naga Student Association, Manipur (ANSAM) expresses strong resentment to the Government of Manipur for failing to respond to the wish of the people to nullify the Manipur (Hill Areas) District Council (Third amendment) Act 2008.The Naga people have rejected the Act and conveyed the same through a series of agitation including consigning to flame copies of the Act on the April 5 , imposing a 12hour chaka bandh on the April 6 and the imposition of 6 days economic clockade from April 12", said the ANSAM sources.
The Naga students' body has resolved to intensify the ongoing agitation in all the highways for another 7 days with effect from midnight of April 17 by including the interstate buses within the purview of the blockade.
"We also have resolved to intensify our agitation until the Manipur (Hill Areas) District Council (Third amendment) Act 2008 is nullified," warned the ANSAM leaders.
The ANSAM appeals for co-operation from all sections of people.
"It is not our intention to cause inconvenient to the public however, in the event of arbitrary imposition of the stated Act, our rights is seriously threatened and therefore we expect all tribal people and those who believe in democracy to participate in the movement for justice," urged the ANSAM.
