North East People's Organisation (NEPO), Manipur Chap ter organised a one-day group discussion oh Idea of Manipur (Issue on Historical Inclusivity) at Manipur Press Club, here, on Sunday.
Manipur University School of Humanity and Environmental Studies retired dean professor W Nabakumar chaired the session while All Manipur Working Journalists' Union (AMWJU) president Bijoy Kakchingtabam, Manipur University political science retired professor Kh Ibo and social activist R Ranendrajit attended as dais members.
Speaking on the occasion, Bijoy stressed the need for understanding how the ethnic violence has erupted and identifying the masterminds of the clash, stating that there should be some architects behind the present crisis.
People need to work together to stand against such divisive elements and uphold the territory, integrity and identity of Manipur, he said.
The idea of a united Manipur depends on the efforts of the people of all communities, especially from the majority community.
The role of majority community in the changing geo-political dimension is a big question, he said while expressing belief that the session will discuss this issue and come up with some fruitful recommendations.
NEPO Manipur Chapter consultative member professor N Mohilal also spoke on the need for understanding the underlying causes and issues in order to resolve the crisis and restore peace.
The role of smaller tribes towards working for a common goal and ensuring peaceful co-existence is also crucial.
Such smaller communities are the most deprived ones in the society as they are not getting many of the benefits meant for scheduled tribes.
For a united and stronger Manipur, there is the need to ensure benefits of government schemes and opportunities reach all sections of the society, he said.
