Imphal, December 27 2023:
Remarking that Khundrakpam MLA Lokeshwar's statement, which went viral on social media, of connecting the deadly conflict between Meeteis and Kukis as a result of greed for the two Member of Parliament seats, tantamount to portraying the Meetei community as the perpetrator of the ethnic conflict; Khundrakpam village volunteers demanded the MLA to clarify his Statement at the earliest, failing which he would face boycott.
Speaking at Manipur Press Club on Wednesday, Village Volunteer Service Khundrakpam AC convenor Nongthombam Bobby declared that the decision to boycott was taken after a general body meeting of the Service.
He recounted the rally taken out in the hill districts on May 3 against the Meetei's demand for ST status.
It is a fact that the Kukis were the first to attack and kill the Meeteis and set their homes on fire.
Many Meetei people who were settling nearby Kuki villages in Khundrakpam AC were forced to flee their homes following the attacks.
As such, it is extremely ignorant of the local MLA to speak such care less words and he deserves to be boycotted.
Thus, he urged all to stand together for the Meetei community, while demanding the local MLA to make his position clear at the earliest.
