Self-defence training of VVF from Jan 10

Village Volunteer Force (VVF) spokesperson Yumnam Jiban Singh has announced that it will start self-defence training from January 10 with an aim to protect the Meetei society and develop its economy.
Addressing a press meet at Irengbam Mayai Leikai under Oinam assembly constituency on Friday in the presence of VVF president T Ramananda and secretary A Chinglemba, Y Jiban informed that VVF members have started cultivation pf potato, mustard, lentils, etc., in 25 'Pari' of farmland in Bishnupur, Imphal East, Imphal West, Thoubal and Kakching districts with the stated objective to improve the economy of the state.
While pointing out that VVF has been playing a major role in protecting the community since the conflict broke out on May 3, 2023, the president stated that as it is essential for the volunteers to be fit and courageous, VVF will launch the self-defence training at Lilong Haoreibi from January 10.Jiban continued that the training can be participated by any able-bodied person in the age group of 18 to 40 years.
Out of all the trainees, 100 selected trainees will undergo special commando-like training, he mentioned.
Stating that VVF will seek donation from the public but not insist on the payment, Y Jiban fervently appealed to the public to donate generously to help meet some of the requirements.
He emphasised that VVF volunteers will only be involved in providing security cover in conflict situation and no volunteer will be allowed to wear VVF uniform in public places.
Y Jiban further stressed that VVF has been formed under the Constitution of India which allows everyone to protect themselves and their land, adding that VVF's main responsibility is to protect Manipur.
He also expressed gratitude to proscribed outfit RPF for its timely clarification regarding the January 1 incident at Lilong which prevented potential outbreak of riot.
On the other hand, VVF secretary A Chinglemba emphasised that VVF has been established to protect the integrity of Bharat and Manipur, while stressing that Constitution of India gives the people the right to protect their land.
