Imphal, January 07 2024:
While the state government needs to focus on the on-going conflict in the state and put an end to the violence, Prime Minister Narendra Modi should stop being stoical and come to Manipur to help bring a solution to the crisis, said Communist Party of India (CPI) national secretary Pallab Sen Gupta.
In a press meet held at Hotel Nirmala here on Sunday, Pallab Sen said that the party takes the violence in the state seriously.
The state government needs to convene an all-political party meeting over the prevailing conflict, in addition to convening a special assembly session to discuss the issue.
Informing that CPI would be launching a three-day mass hunger strike demanding restoration of law and order in Manipur, Pallab further informed that the party would join Rahul Gandhi's upcoming Bharat Nyay Jodo Yatra from Manipur, if an invitation is extended to CPI.
Stressing the need for restoring peace and normalcy in the state ahead of the upcoming parliament election, he remarked that the dates for the poll can be delayed but peace in Manipur cannot be overlooked.
He then said that CPI may field a candidate, provided the timing and place is right.
