NRC within March this year: MLA Rameshwar
Source: Chronicle News Service

Imphal, January 07 2024: Kakching MLA Mayanglambam Rameshwar Singh has said that the central government had issued an order to implement National Register of Citizens (NRC) in Manipur within March this year while expressing confidence that the issue of illegal immigrants/ infiltrators would be solved with the implementation of NRC.

Speaking prior to premier show screening of the historical film entitled 'Mareibak Ningba Herachandra' at the auditorium of Manipur State Film Development Society (MSFDS), Palace compound on Sunday as the chief guest, MLA Rameshwar confided that an order of the Government of India specified identification of illegal immigrants in Manipur after 1961 and deport them to their respective coun tries by conducting NRC within March this year.

When the NRC is implemented, the issue of illegal immigrants and infiltrators in Manipur would be solved, he added.

While describing chief minister N Biren Singh as a visionary leader who thinks for the future of Manipur, Rameshwar said illegal immigrants and infiltrators particularly those from Myanmar had long been trying to destroy Manipur.

In the past 12/13 years, sudden and abnormal population growth were detected in Kuki dominated assembly constituencies of Manipur with Kuki population recorded at the rate of 75 percent increase during the period 2012-2023.Illegal immigrants and infiltrators from Myanmar occupy and settle in reserved and protected forest areas in Kuki dominated constituencies and they provoked already settled Kuki people to destroy Manipur.

After acknowledging their evil designs, government took up necessary actions and started evicting encroachers from reserved and protected forest areas.

Government also took up steps to prevent emerging youth from marooning in drug menace spearheaded by Chin-Kuki narco-terrorists, Rameshwar claimed adding that the present violence started after government shattered dreams of the Chin-Kuki narco-terrorists, who also pushed original Kukis into money-trap.

According to the MLA, the present government has been taking up steps as per law and even prevented efforts to encroach on sacred sites like Koubru and Thangjing.

Apart from declaring Koubru as sacred site, the government also brought back Panchayat system in villages which were included in ADCs and issued gazette notification in this regard.

He also claimed that government has been rectifying mistakes of the past gradually and complete rectification will be possible when people extend support to the government.

Regarding the film 'Mareibak Ningba Herachandra', MLA Rameshwar said producing a film on an un-erasable phase in the history of Manipur is quite laudable and the film based on the role played by Sana Herachandra in defeating and pushing back the Awas after 'Seven years of devastation' will even remain as assets for future generation of Manipur.

He also stressed the need for producing more films based on the history of Manipur and thanked director, actors and entire crew members of the film.

The simple function held before the premier show was also attended by IPR joint secretary T Ramesh.

Citations and shawls were presented to entire crew members of the film.

'Mareibak Ningba Herachandra' has been directed by Maipaksana Haorongbam and produced by Chinglemba Yengkhom while Y Nilachandra did story and screenplay of the film.

Main actors of the film include Pilot, Suraj, Peter, Mahesh, Gournitai, Pinki and Jasmine, with Yoimayai Mongshaba as editor of the film.
