Locals stage protest against "attempt to remove State Security Force"

Thoubal, December 13 2023: Expressing strong opposition to the Government's alleged attempt to withdraw State forces deployed at Yairipok Nungbrang village, locals of the area staged a protest demonstration and blocked the gate of the Thoubal CDO camp at Thumkhong Lairembi Community Hall, Nungbrang Yairipok today.It may be noted that residents of Nungbrang under Andro Assembly Constituency, Imphal East had fled the village in the wake of the conflict which erupted on May 3 and sought shelter in various relief camps.

However, with the deployment of three Thoubal CDO teams in the village, the displaced families had returned home.

Upon learning that the State Government is reportedly set to withdraw the State forces from the village, the disgruntled villagers thronged the gate of the Thoubal CDO camp today and protested along with the raising of slogans.

Speaking by the sideline of the protest, one unnamed meira paibi leader stated that there are a number of Kuki villages less than a kilometre away from Nungbrang village, namely, Kamuching, Kamu Tampak Bongba Khullen, Lairok Vaiphei etc.

Under such perilous circumstances, she condemned the Government's alleged bid to withdraw the three CDO Thoubal teams who have been aiding the local village volunteers in safeguarding the area.

The meira paibi leader conceded that the CDO teams can be removed only when other State security forces are deployed to replace them and sought the attention of SP Thoubal and the State Government in this regard.
