Imphal, December 27 2023: Congress leader Rahul Gandhi will embark on a yatra from Manipur to Mumbai connecting the North-East and the West of India, said Manipur Pradesh Congress Committee president K Meghachandra today.

Dubbed as the "Bharat Nyay Yatra", Rahul Gandhi will begin the yatra from January 14 covering 6,200 kilometres.

Briefing media persons at Congress Bhavan, K Meghachandra said the yatra and the schedule was announced today morning by AICC president Mallikarjun Kharge in New Delhi.

The "Bharat Nyay Yatra" will conclude on March 20 .

Notably, Rahul Gandhi had last year taken out "Bharat Jodo Yatra" in September from Kanyakumari, the southern tip of India to Jammu and Kashmir, a journey covering some 4,080 kilometres.

The yatra took about five months ending in Srinagar in January this year.

Rahul Gandhi's "Bharat Nyay Yatra" this time will cover 14 States and 85 districts.

The yatra will cover the States of Manipur, Nagaland, Assam, Meghalaya, West Bengal, Bihar, Odisha, Chhattisgarh, Uttar Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh, Rajasthan and Gujarat before culminating at Maharashtra.

The yatra will be flagged off by AICC president Mallikarjun Kharge from Imphal on January 14, said K Meghachandra.

Earlier, Congress leader KC Venugopal was quoted by news agency ANI as saying Congress chose violence-hit Manipur as the starting point "to try to heal the pain of the people" .

ANI quoted KC Venugopal saying, "Without Manipur how can we do a yatra? We have to try to heal the pain of the people of Manipur..." .

MPCC president K Meghachandra said many Chief Ministers, ex-Chief Ministers, renowned politicians, intellectuals and scholars will take part in the yatra.

Political leaders, intellectuals and leaders of different communities and civil society organisations from Manipur will also join the yatra, he added.

The yatra will include stretches of bus rides as well as footmarches.

The marchers will ride on buses in mostly uninhabited places, K Meghachandra said.

Bharat Nyay Yatra will seek economic, social and political justice for the people of the country.

The yatra is against the "divide and rule policy" of the BJP.

Law and order situation in most parts of the country is deteriorating under the BJP.

The yatra is to secure justice for all sections of the society including women and employees, K Meghachandra said.

People of Manipur are currently facing many hardships under the BJP.

The yatra will seek justice for them, said the MPCC president, seeking support from the people.

MPCC vice president Hareshwar Goshwami and other Congress leaders were present in the press meet.
