Manipur Hockey celebrates Olympic Day

Manipur Hockey under the aegis of Hockey India celebrated Olympic Day at the Khuman Lampak Hokey Stadium on Thursday.
As part of the celebration, an Olympic Day run was held Health & IPR minister Dr S Ranjan Singh flagged off the run.
Speaking on the occasion as chief guest, minister Ranjan said that Manipur occupies a worthy place in the international arena in the held of games and sports, which have also become an identity of the state.
Good health can be maintained only through sports, he added.
Ranjan then stressed the need for all to join the mission of war against drugs which is an initiative of the chief minister N Biren Singh, and appealed to all to cooperate with the government on such ventures in order to save the future generations.
Speaking as president of the event, Khoirom Loyalakpa, president Manipur Hockey, said that Manipur Hockey has been celebrating Olympic Day since the past seven years.
There have been seven Olympians from the state in hockey.
Manipur Hockey is eying to produce more numbers of international players in hockey, he added.
Wangkhei MLA Th Arunkumar Singh, Gyanendro Ningombam, architect of Manipur Hockey, Dr Basudev Singh, former president Manipur Hockey, Kshetrimayum Thoiba Singh, Olympian & lifetime president Manipur Hockey, Major PK Singh, and S Ratan Singh, social worker, were also present as guests of honour and special guests.
A friendly hockey match between Chinglensana XI and Kothajit XI was played as a part of the celebration.
In Thoubal, Khuman Youth Development Club Heirok Part-III also celebrated World Olympic Day at Eastern Mala English School Heirok Part-III campus on Thursday.
The programme was attended by Eastern Mala English School founder Thokchom Rajendro as chief guest, Heirok Atheletic Union (HAU) manager Elangbam Muhol as president and KYDC Khuman general secretary Laishram Johny Meitei as guest of honour.
As part of the event, HAU manager E Muhol was felicitated by KYDC Khuman general secretary L Johny along with demonstration on yoga by various experts in connection with International Day of Yoga.
