MOMA-ICAR sign pact on expanding organic farming areas

Manipur Organic Mission Agency (MOMA) and Manipur centre of Indian Council of Agricultural Research (ICAR) have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on Thursday to expand MOMA's organic farming activities and areas with utilisation of modern technologies.
The MoU was signed at farmers' hostel of ICAR Research Complex, Lamphelpat wherein agro inputs under M1DH and YSP were also distributed to farmers.
The MoU signing event was attended by additional chief secretary P Vaiphei, director (horticulture & soil conservation) Honey Chara, Bharatiya Agro-Economics Research Centre general secretary Pramod Choudhury, MOMA and MIDH mission director K Devdutta Sharma and ICAR Research Complex, Meghalaya director Dr Binay Kumar Misra.
Speaking at the event, P Vaiphei informed that there is not much reduction in production under organic method of farming and farmers adopting the same will not suffer any loss as people like organic farm products which are sold at higher price.
He then urged farmers of the state to use organic fertilizers and insecticides and expressed hope that the MoU signed between MOMA and ICAR will help in converting paddy fields of Manipur into organic fields.
MOMA mission director K Devdutta Sharma, in his speech, said that the department of horticulture and soil conservation is planning to bring out an organic farming policy.
He also said that MOMA is planning to have organic production hub after identifying some cluster areas under MOVCDNER and the MoU was signed with the resource rich ICAR to make the mission successful.
