28th Nehru Junior Girls State Level Hockey : Malemnganbi nets seven as Brilliant Academy crush RK Sanatombi Vidyalaya 13-0 in tourney opener

M Malemnganbi ran riot to chip in 7 goals alone in Brilliant Academy, Thoubal 13-0 victory over RK Sanatombi Vidyalaya, Jiribam as the 28th Nehru State Level U-17 Girls Hockey Tournament kicked off today at Khuman Lampak Hockey Stadium.
The tournament organised by Directorate of Youth Affairs and Sports is being participated by 7 teams clubbed into two pools and top two winners in each group will advance to the last four stage of the competition.
The Thoubal team got off to a bright start and took a 2-0 first quarter lead as N Ashakiran opened the scoring in the 6th minute before N Malemnganbi had her first goal by converting a penalty comer in the 8th minute.
Goalie Kh Shakhenbi of Brilliant Academy then made it 3-0 after 19 minutes and Malemnganbi added her second in the 22nd minute to make it 4-0 till halfway.
The onslaught picked up more pace after the break and Brilliant Academy stamped full authority with N Malemnganbi pumping in five more goals (27', 34', 38', 42', 43) .
N Ashakiran also found her second in the 32nd minute after W Kherota and N Julina (29') added a goal each to help Brilliant Academy cruise to 13-0 win in the Pool B opener.
Later in the day, Brilliant Academy confirmed their semi-final slot with a 6-0 thrashing of Maha Union Govt Hr Secondary School, Chandel for the second win.
S Henthoi (10', 15') and Chingkheinganbi W (15', 33') shone with two goals each for the Thoubal team as N Julina (33') and W Mayarani (50') scored a goal apiece.
In the second Pool B match, Young Pioneers' School who are representing Imphal East notched up a 12-0 victory against Maha Union Govt Eft Secondary School, Chandel thanks to trebles from H Bidyaluxmi (3', 8', 32'), H Silky (13', 37', 24') and T Reenu (14', 18', 44').N Merida (35') and Diya O (42') also scored a goal each in this one sided encounter.
Meanwhile in the Pool A opener staged in the third ground, UNACCO School, Imphal West slumped to a 4-0 loss in the hands of Thaimei Guiganpou English School, Bishnupur.
The two periods saw neither team making a significant move but the Bishnupur girls went ahead with a slender 1-0 lead thanks to K Eleena's penalty comer goal in the 40th minute.
The last quarter saw K Samila (48'), K Reena (50') and L Ritu (51') netting a goal each to seal the game 4-0 .
