Manipur crowned champions of North East Olympic Games 2022

Manipur added five medals including two gold to emerge overall team champions of the 2nd North East Olympic Games 2022 as the seven-day-long competition wrapped up at Shillong, Meghalaya on Wednesday.
The state athletes won one each of gold and silver medals in wrestling, gold medal in women's football and one silver and two bronze medals in archery on the last day of the Games.
In wrestling, N Tyson Singh defeated RB Lalthansanga of Mizoram in the final of the men's 86kg freestyle event to claim the gold medal while another state wrestler Abishek Adhikari settled for silver medal in the men's 79kg freestyle contest after he lost to Janwang Khimhuin of Arunachal Pradesh.
Manipur bagged gold medal in the U-17 girls' football competition.
The state girls won the final match against Arunachal Pradesh with relative ease by producing a 4-0 result on Wednesday.
The concluding day also saw the state archers add three medals as the trio of Subhachandra, Sen Meitei and Bretinjit Meitei claimed silver medal in the recurve men's team event while Subhachandra and Swasita teamed up to take bronze medal in the recurve mixed team event, and the women's team comprising Swasita, Rabina and Naobi Chanu earned bronze medal in recurve women's team contest.
Manipur scooped 240 medals in all to finish their campaign atop the medal table.
The medal haul of- the state athletes included 88 gold, 75 silver and 77 bronze.
In athletics, Manipur won 10 gold, 14 silver and 9 bronze while the state archers ended their campaign with 9 gold, 9 silver and 6 bronze.
The State also did well in taekwondo and wushu.
The taekwondo team collected 11 gold, 5 silver and 7 bronze while the wushu athletes secured 11 gold, 4 silver and 1 bronze.
Wrestling, boxing, judo and tennis were other disciplines where Manipur made their mark.
Performances by the state wrestlers yielded 8 gold, 2 silver and 2 bronze; judokas clinched 7 gold, 4 silver and 5 bronze; boxers bagged 7 gold, 3 silver and 3 bronze; and tennis team contributed 7 gold, 3 silver and 2 bronze.
In cycling, Manipur finished their campaign with 5 gold, 1 silver and 3 bronze as shooters secured 4 gold, 8 silver and 5 bronze.
Among other disciplines where Manipur won medals were Weightlifting (G3, S5, B5), swimming (G2, S10, Bll), karate (G2, S3, B7), golf (G1, B2), football (G1, B1), table tennis (GO, S3, B4), badminton (G0, S1, B3) and basketball (GO, S), Bl).
Assam were runners up with a total of 203 medals including 97 gold, 61 silver and 63 bronze while Arunachal Pradesh finished third with 112 medals (G39, S36, B37) .
