Sit-in, torch rally protest liquor legalisation

Imphal, November 16 2022:
Continuing the protest against the state government's decision to legalise liquor, Coalition Against Drugs & Alcohol (CADA) and other women's organisations organised torch rally and sit-in demonstrations at different parts of the state on Wednesday.
In a release, CADA information and publicity secretary Khundongbam Anand informed that a sit-in protest was organised jointly by All Manipur Women Social Reformation & Development Samaj (Nupi Samaj), Women's Social Welfare Association and CADA at Wangkhei Angom Leikai from 1 pm on Wednesday.
The protestors also shouted slogans against the government's decision to legalise liquor.
Talking to media persons, one of the protestors, meira paibi activist Lourembam Sunita asserted that as a mother she cannot accept the government's decision to allow manufacture and sale of liquor in the state and it must roll back its decision of legalising liquor.
Meanwhile, a mass torch rally was taken out jointly by Thoubal District United Women's Development Organisation (Thoubal Ima), Nupi Samaj, Ningol Yaipha Thourang Lup, Wangkhem and CADA at Thoubal Wangkhem in Thoubal district from 7 pm on Tuesday, the CADA release said.
The rally began from the Lup's shed and passed through different parts of Wangkhem.
The protestors also shouted slogans against legalisation of liquor and demanded the government to withdraw its decision, it conveyed.
