Imphal, November 16 2022:
Scheduled Tribe Demand Committee Manipur (STDCM) submitted memorandums to Lamsang MLA S Rajen and Wangkhei MLA Th Arunkumar seeking to know their stand on the demand of ST status for Meetei-Meitei and urged them to mount pressure on the government for sending the requisite recommendation to the Centre at the earliest.
Receiving the memorandum, MLA Rajen expressed his support to the demand and assured of doing the needful for early submission of the requisite recommendation.
He also spoke about how the people of hills and valley used to live as one without any hostility.
However, that advent of Hindu Vaishnavism created a rift with its class society system and it changed the dynamics of the relationship between hills and valley.
Meanwhile, MLA Arunkumar termed the demand for recognition of Meetei community as a legitimate one.
He said that it is the need of the hour to protect Meetei community considering the situation the state would be facing once the train service reaches the state capital.
He assured his support in realisation of the demand.
