Thang-Ta Day observance concludes

The main programme cum valedictory function of the month-long observance of Thang-Ta Day on the theme 'Thang-Ta for an Ethical Wave of Living', which was organised by Thang-Ta Day Observation Committee under the aegis of Kanglei Indigenous Martial Arts & Cultural Society (KIMACS), was held at St Stephen Higher Secondary School, Hiyangthang on Tuesday.
The closing function was attended by State Kala Akademi awardee Athokpam Ojendro, Committee chairman L Dhamendro, KIMACS president N Ajitkumar, Committee ex-chairman Irom Ibomcha and School principal Laishram Punachandra as presidium members During the function, the Committee conveyed that although Thang-Ta is now being taught in schools and higher institutes since 2016, teachers for the subject have not been appointed by the government.
In 2018, many Thang-Ta enthusiasts were arrested after staging protest for appointment of the same.
The government then assured of appointing teachers for the subject and released the arrested people without any condition on November 15 of the same year.
Later, during a programme organised in October 2019, titular king of Manipur Leishemba Sanajaoba declared November 15 as Thang-Ta Day, following which the day is being observed every year by organising various events, the Committee recounted.
