Imphal, November 16 2022:
Lauding the initiative of CM N Biren to replace NFSA rice with rice produced by the state's farmers, agriculture minister Thongam Biswajit expressed confidence that such a policy if successfully implemented will help save the agricultural lands of the state.
The minister shared his observation while delivering the chief guest's address at the inaugural function of a four-day State Level Krishi Mela, being organised by State Agricultural Management & Extension Training Institute (SAMETI) Manipur on the theme 'Transforming Agriculture' at Iboyaima Shumang Leela Shanglen, here, on Wednesday.
Biswajit urged all to work together for bringing a self-reliant state.
As equal right is given to every citizen under the constitution, one should remember that every individual has equal responsibility in bringing development in the land, he maintained.
While pointing out that use of chemical fertilizers in cultivation of crops cause harm to human health, Biswajit said that the department is working to make the farmers aware about new farming methods so as to lessen dependence oh chemical fertilisers.
Four types of farming methods namely natural farming, organic farming, nano farming and chemical fertilizer will be demonstrated to the farmers and if there is not much difference in the yield under four methods then there is the need to replace chemical fertilizer farming by other means.
The programme was also attended by Langthabal MLA Karam Shyam, Oinam MLA I Nalini, Lamlai MLA Kh Ibomcha and Kumbi MLA S Premchandra among others.
