Imphal, November 16 2022:
All Zeliangrong Students' Union (Assam, Manipur & Nagaland) has cautioned all concerned settling in Zeliangrong areas to stop poppy plantation and cultivation along with declaring that it would soon launch extensive drive against such illegal activity.
In a release, Union's information cell recalled that in its 2nd DIMKI (general body meeting) session held at Bampungo, Assam on October 29, 2021 decision was taken to ban poppy cultivation and exploitation of forest and natural resources under Zeliangrong areas.
"However, we have learnt from reliable sources about the illegal plantation of poppy in some Zeliangrong areas, and this is disheartening", the AZSU said, while pointing out that poppy plantation is a major factor for the adverse climate change particularly in Manipur due to the massive destruction of forests.
Such illegal activities lead to drug addiction and destroy the precious lives of resourceful youths of the nation and Manipur in particular, said the union and reiterated its stand that there would no leniency against anyone found defying its decision.
With regard to launch of 'War on Drugs' mission by the government of Manipur, AZSU also pledged its support and cooperation in eradicating the drug menace from the state and appealed to all Zeliangrong citizens to back the initiative of the union in the larger interest of the common good.
On the other-hand, AZSU urged all Zeliangrong leaders who had previously served in Naga Students' Federation (NSF) to attend the 4th Federal Assembly of NSF at Boro Henam village, Dima Hasao district in Assam, which will be hosted by All Zeliangrong Students' Union (AMN) on December 1 and 2.After the NSF federal assembly, the 1st DIMKI (Assembly) session of AZSU for the tenure 2022-2025 will be held on December 2 at the same venue, AZSU (AMN) said, while urging all its federating units, senior leaders and well-wishers to attend the assembly during which discussion on many key issues confronting the Zeliangrong community would be discussed.
