AMPA urges for printing orders of Govt to local firms

The year-long golden jubilee celebration of All Manipur Press Association (AMPA) concluded with a seminar on 'The future of printing industry in NE India' at Hotel Classic Grande, Chingmeirong, here, on Wednesday.
AMPA presented its first Lifetime Achievement Award to Leimapokpam Bhumeshor, proprietor of Th Iboyaima Printers.
Member of the Year 2021-22 award was presented to Sur Printers' proprietor Senjam Surjit and Press of the Year 2021- 22 to NEST Advertising Private Limited managing director Khuraijam Krishnan.
The awards include citations and mementos.
Speaking on the occasion, AMPA secretary YK Dhiren observed how printing industry is advancing with the adoption of new digital printing technologies.
In this situation, the printing industries in the northeast states need to tab on the new technologies, understand and adopt them in order to stay in the business, he said.
The secretary also stressed the need for concerted efforts through AMPA in order to make the printing industry of the state compatible with the rest of the country while expressing confidence that participation of experts from different reputed firms in the seminar will create awareness on the changing landscape of printing industries.
Adopting the new technologies and providing services needed by the modern consumers will help in improving the industry in the state and boost the economy as well.
Apart from the printing firms, the government also has major role in promoting the industry, Dhiren said and appealed to the government to give printing orders of the government to local firms instead of engaging firms from outside the state.
He also appealed to senior officials of the government to stop their involvement in awarding printing order to outside firms.
He further appealed to the government to include printing industry in its industrial policy such as start up to provide financial assistance to scale up the businesses.
World Print and Communication Forum (WPCF) president Prof Kamal Mohan Chopra and AMPA president Senjam Surjit attended the event as chief guest and president respectively while AIFMP East vice-president Bidyut Ranjan Nag, COHSEM chairman Dr Ch Sarat and BSEM chairman Akham Joykumar were present as guests of honour.
A souvenir in relation with the golden jubilee celebration of AMPA was also released on the occasion.
