Imphal, July 19 2021:
All Manipur Students' Union (AMSU) has wished grand success to the five Manipuri Olympians namely MC Mary Kom (Boxing), S Nilakanta (Hockey), P Sushila (Hockey), L Sushila (Judo) and S Mirabai Chanu (Weightlifting) who will participate in Tokyo Olympic Games.
In a release, AMSU information and publicity secretary Wangkheimayum Rimakan expressed elation that out of the 120 athletes selected to represent India, five are from Manipur, which has small geographical area and scanty population as compared to other states of the country.
Manipur has been occupying a space in global platform through sports since earlier days.
The state, though a small one, is being praised as powerhouse of sports of India.
However, nurturing the young sports enthusiast is limited in the state and most of the players work hard on their own, he contended.
Noting that the number of people who support sportspersons is much lesser than those who support them after achieving something, Rimakan stressed that many hard-working players who have potential failed before achieving their goal due to lack of institutional patronage and nurturing.
Numerous players from the state will emerge if the state government pays special attention to sports and develop its infrastructure, he continued.
While encouraging the five Olympians from Manipur to face their opponents with all their might, Rimakan wished grand success to all the five players of the state who will be taking part in Tokyo Olympics.
