Imphal, July 19 2021:
While pointing out that it has been calling for preventing shortage of fertilisers for a long-time including submission of memorandum in this regard, United Peoples' Front (UPF), Manipur has denounced the apathy of the government authority over the matter till date.
In a statement, UPF secretary publicity A Loya recalled news report published in a daily few days ago wherein Bishnupur District DAO said that steps were taken up to deliver fertiliser/ urea to farmers to their nearest possible location.
Though the said announcement was commendable, it is disheartening that the venues in the districts selected for distribution of fertilisers have been witnessing long queues, while those with powerful connections or wealth are procuring and distributing the same using several trucks.
The rate fixed by the government for a 45 kg bag of fertiliser is Rs 266.80, which is recorded in paper but not carried out in action as fertilisers were found selling at the rate of Rs 700-900 per bag at many places.
As such, he urged the authority concerned to look into the matter at the earliest.
