Imphal, July 19 2021:
While informing that supply of irrigation water to paddy fields in the surrounding area of the right and left canals of Dolaithabi Barrage has stopped a day after the service started on July 13, Talented Farmers' Association has appealed to the authority concerned to ensure resumption of the operation at the earliest possible.
According to the Association's president Thangjam Premkumar, the AE of Dolaithabi Barrage Division (II) told the media on July 13 that they have started providing irrigation water to the paddy fields in Ishingthembi, Yumnam Khunou, Sambei and several other areas.
Surprisingly, the service stopped from the next day onwards, he said.
They have raised the issue with the EE concerned but they were told that the department is providing irrigation water to the fields, he said.
Premkumar then appealed to the authority concerned to look into the situation in Pukhao Iranpham, Sagolmang and Yumnam Patlou areas and take up necessary steps to provide irrigation water to the paddy fields in the area instead of lying to the public.
He further said that farmers are even mulling to dig ponds by claiming back the land acquired for construction of canals if the department cannot make the canal functional when it is most needed.
