Police seize fertilizers sold at higher rate

Imphal, July 19 2021:
A team of Thoubal district police led by SDPO H Johnny seized fertilizers including 20 super bags, 24 potash bags and five diamond bags which were sold at higher rates from two shopkeepers in Samaram area on Monday evening.
The two shopkeepers have been identified as Konsam Mohori Singh (42) son of late K Shamu Singh of Samaram Mamang Leikai and Chanambam Sharat (50) son of late Ch Gouramani Singh of Samaram Lamkhai.
According to police, acting on credible information that some shops in Samaram Lamkhai dealing with fertilizers are selling fertilizers at higher rate, a team of Thoubal police rushed to the area and conducted extensive search at the shops owned by Kons-am Mohori and Chanambam Sharat.
During the search, 20 super bags were seized from the shop owned by Konsam Mohori and 24 potash bags and five diamond bags from Chanambam Sharat's shop.
During questioning, Mohori admitted that he sold a super bag which cost Rs 500 normally at Rs 730 to local customers.
The super bags were procured from one Langpoklakpam Roshan, son of L Chourajit of Khongjom Tekcham Mamang Leikai at the rate of Rs 680 per bag, he added.
Upon questioning, Sharat revealed that the potash bags and diamond bags were bought from Roshan at Rs 1200 per bag of Potash and Rs 1750 per bag of Diamond.
He then sold a bag of potash at Rs 1250 which normally costs Rs 875 and a bag of Diamond at Rs 1800 against the normal cost Rs 480.The team seized the fertilizers from the two shopkeepers and further requested the district magistrate Thoubal to take necessary action against the fertilizer sellers.
