State Indigenous Wrestling C'ship semifinals set

The stage is set for the -65 kg category quarterfinals and +65kg category semifinals of the ongoing Manipur State Indigenous Wrestling Championship.
The matches are scheduled for Saturday, November 26 .
The third day of the championship witnessed a mesmerising crowd coming from all corners of the district.
Earlier, the day witnessed some injuries among wrestlers in the championship.
However, all of them were stated to be out of danger.
The day witnessed the presence of L Dikho, MLA 48-Mao AC, Rangnamei Rang Peter, DC Kamjong, and Mahesh Hiralal Chaudhari, DC Senapati, during the first session of the championship.
Speaking on the occasion, Rangnamei Rang Peter, a local from Senapati district, stated that the indigenous wrestling is inherited from forefathers.
According to the IAS officer, the wrestling requires techniques to win from the opponent.
The small ones could also defeat the big ones who have techniques.
Wrestling is also organised to know each other and come close to each other promoting friendship and brotherhood which is also a commendable tradi tion passed down from the forefathers.
Nagas consider wrestling as a game to bring the bond of relationship and love between villages.
There was a tradition to marry the most beautiful lady by the strongest in a village.
There was also a tradition of resolving any dispute between villages over any land dispute or other matters through wrestling, the Kamjong DC further said as he called for promotion of the indigenous game.
On Saturday (Novemver 26), the semifinal matches of the 65 kg above category between L Moses of Sarana-mai and Ningthoujam Sheetal Singh, and Rakhovei Liimai of Phuba Khuman against Pavei M of Saranamai will take place.
The quarterfinal matches for 65 kg below category will see D Daiveihrii of Kodom Khullen against M Dai Zho of Ravomai, Sh Veikhole of Phuba Khuman against SK Veilou of Ngari, S Khuveilou of Phuba Khuman against Apao Tho of Tungjoy, and Daveilou Dovih against SK Raisakho of Ngari.
Valedictory function of the championship will be graced by chief minister N Biren Singh as chief guest, Works & YAS minister Govindas Konthoujam as guest of honour, TA & Hills/Horti minister Letpao Haokip as functional president, with MLA 48-Mao L Dikho and MLA 47-Karong J Kumo Sha as chief hosts on Saturday.
